12,000 Lao families relocated for hydropower projects

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) – About US$500 million has been spent on the relocation and movement of 60,000 people from 12,000 families in more than 200 villages across Laos to make way for power projects, the Energy and Mines Minister has said.

Dr Khammany Inthirath reported these figures at the fourth meeting on lessons learnt and exchanges on the relocation, compensation and restoration of people affected by power projects in Khammuan province recently.
